CAMP CAMP is a loose non-geographically-bound extended family group which is fluid and amorphous and was birthed in the summer of 07/08 in the northern rivers region of northern NSW at Matiatia. Camp Camp bonded over heavy weather, kink, nude farming, intrepid camping adventures, gardening, mushrooms, mohitos, cabin fever, extended stays and work shirking. Camp Camp embraces the coming together of queers, faeries, punks, transfagulous entities, urban guerilla gardeners, farmboys and grrls, cooks, whores, kinksters, artists, writers, yogis, shellfiche, psy-tranny sistas, dead heavy divas, permaculture novices and experts, deep ecology freaks, animal lovers, animals, rubber lovers and travelers for celebrations and sharing the love throughout this and every year.
YES, BUT WHAT IS IT?
Ok, Camp Camp began with a few invitations extended to regular visitors to this region around the New Year period. Lots of queer family venture to the magical northern rivers region of NSW at this time to attend Tropical Fruits, the queer dance party in Lismore. I thought it would be great to provide a place for people to come and camp, make their experience of the region more beautiful and share the farm experience with them. Lots of visitors stay at the caravan park in town, and Matiatia was another option. We are situated in beautiful surrounds, with lots of wildlife, some beautiful natural features, and genuine farming activities like milking! Our gardens provide food and beauty, and ingredients for baking enthusiasts to drool over. We have a huge kitchen, perfect for communal cooking and eating. We have the most beautiful outdoor baths and showers and we are charismatic and generous hosts!
So people came. Many more than I imagined. And camped in outrageous weather. And partied. Created spontaneous events. Had a holiday. It was lovely. We had another at easter, and the inaugural Camp Camp outback happened in October, and can only grow.
