The certificate on the front page represents a generous contribution from sam stott to the sustainability of the event.
From Sam:
In the interests of sustainability, i have offset the carbon dioxide emissions for camp camp 08/09, based on 15 people over a week of low-impact co-habitation and celebration
Thanks Sam!
Dietary stuff:
OK, so there will be campers coming who have widely varying dietary requirements, which will need to be taken into account during baking and mealtimes. Some individuals have sent me a list of things they can and can't eat, and while individals can bring specialty items with them, it is easy enough during cooking to make portions which are free of allergens.
If you have any thoughts on this, send me an email.
see you soon.

Hello Campers
Time seems to have changed pace from a saunter to a canter, or even a high spirited gallop!
Which means I'm making my list and checking it twice, because of course you are all naughty AND nice...
I need things from you. Yes I do.
I need dates.
I need names and numbers.
And other stuff... I'll amplify points in the following document.
Firstly and most importantly, just a reminder that Matiatia is a small holding farm and we live by an ethos in which sustainability, respect for the environment and the animals is primary. I know you are all of a similar mindframe.
So, here is a list of things I've been considering:
Ablutions:
There in an indoor bathroom you are welcome to use, however, in the interests of saving water and so on, we suggest that you shower and bathe with a friend or friends. There is an outdoor shower and an outdoor bath. Make use of them!
Try not to use harsh chemicals in the bath or shower. Use natural where possible.
I request that all pissing be done outside, unless you really really can't hack that. Find a scenic spot and squat, or stand if you have the skills/equipment. I'm sure you'll find it a pleasant experience.
If you are using the inside toilet, use toilet paper sparingly. The black water and grey water from the dwellings is filtered through a reed bed system, and good not to overtax that, especially if we are having yet more wet season...
Do not flush anything other than toilet paper.
Compost:
2 methods for using food scraps:
Feed to ducks and chooks
or
Put in compost bin, with a good handful of dry leaves, grass clippings or torn up newspaper.
Rubbish and Recycling:
Simply:
Leave the place as you found it. Pretty basic. With a big crew a the farm, lost of rubbish can be generated. Take responsibility for your own rubbish and recycling.
Recycling happens only every 2 weeks, unless we make a special run to the tip. Make sure that all recycling is placed either directly in the yellow lidded bin or in one of the recycling boxes provided.
Butts:
Don't chuck butts anywhere but in your personal butt container or in one of the few ashtrays provided. Empty full ashtrays into the bin. Don't let full ashtrays sit around. Some people find them disgusting.
Animals:
If there is a sign on a gate saying Shut The Gate - heed that! We do not want animals wandering down the highway, or into the house gardens
We have 3 dogs. Jimmyjack (girl), Oscar (boy), Bucky (old man)
We have in place a dog containment system, in order to stop our dogs from reaching the free ranging areas for the ducks and chooks. Our dogs are outside dogs, and your dog will be also, should you bring it along. You need to be mindful of not letting the dogs inside the house, so shut all doors behind you, and make sure they are secure. Certain doors can remain open, but I will make that clearer during the farm tour after you arrive.
If you are bringing dogs, you must be responsible for them. They'll need to be introduced to our dogs, as our dogs are very dominant with other dogs around territory and also around food. Poultry killers should stay home, or be kept under your watch at all times.
Generally they all end up having alot of fun, and plenty of rough and tumble on the grass, but always be mindful that incidents can arise when there is a pack.
Cars and Parking
There is not much parking space on the actual property, so, apart from packing and unpacking, cars should be parked outside the property, along the roadside.
Some of you will be camping in your vans, and we will find space for you to park and camp. We'll sort this out as it comes.
Communal Cooking and Eating
Cooking and eating is one of the great joys of camp camp. There are omnivores, vegans, freegans or everything-intolerant campers. So tolerance is required, and a willingness to make edible contributions of whatever nature with love and great gusto. We have a fantastic kitchen, and a huge table to eat the kitchen offerings from. Bring food contributions and we can make shopping expeditions as required. So yes, we don't want you nibbling crumbs alone in your tent, we want huge communal feasts, enjoyed by one and all...
Substances
BYO
Have respect for the farmhouse and its contents (as in no getting wasted and trashing stuff)
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU, NOW! (Thanks to all those who have already fulfilled the requirements below)
DATES:
When are you arriving?
WHO:
How many of you and who are you?
WHERE:
do you plan on sleeping? Do you have camping equipment? Do you have special needs?
There are limited indoor spaces, some of which have already been allocated. If you need to sleep inside, you must let me know immediately. Otherwise, if you have tagged a special spot for camping, let me know, because someone might have gotten there first...
OTHER INFORMATION
Most events at Camp Camp are spontaneous, however, I am in the process of creating a couple of organised events. Tropical Fruits is the event most people are traveling to attend. Let me know if you are interested in attending workshops, or if you are available to perform or DJ at an organised event on 3rd January.
I think that's all for now.
I will forward further updates as they arise.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
